The Down Low with Bespoke Designer Rebecca Anne Designs

We interviewed bespoke designer Rebecca Anne Designs who crafts veils for the wedding day and this is what she had to say.

What is the concept and vision of your brand?

The veil is more than just an accessory, afterthought or addition. I pride myself on offering my brides the ultimate designer veil experience. At the heart of my brand is the concept of crafting bespoke wedding veils that transcend traditional accessories, becoming an integral part of a bride's unique narrative. My vision revolves around celebrating individuality, weaving personal stories into each veil. Bespoke design acknowledges the uniqueness of each bride, resulting in one-of-a-kind veils that capture and resonate with their individual styles and personalities.

What is your favorite fabric to work with?

I spent a long time meticulously testing different types of tulle until I found the perfect one for me and my brides. It possesses a unique blend of qualities that make it perfect for my designs—it feels soft, drapes beautifully, and, crucially, offers the strength needed to support my intricate embroidery designs flawlessly. I find that this particular tulle enhances the overall elegance of my veils while providing a sturdy foundation for my artistic expressions. Additionally, I do currently offer the options of a pearl tulle and a sparkle tulle for those seeking a touch of extra enchantment.

In your words, what does it mean to be a bespoke designer?

Being a bespoke designer is an incredibly rewarding and personalised journey that revolves around creating unique, tailor-made pieces for each individual client. I absolutely adore the one-to-one and collaborative nature of working with brides, as it allows me to truly understand their vision and bring it to life in the form of a personalised wedding veil. Collaborating with brides and discovering their wedding plans is a delightful experience. A particular highlight is being entrusted with the secret details of the wedding dress to aid in the design process. More than just a job, being a bespoke designer is an honor. It's a privilege to play a role in creating something so meaningful for a bride's special day. The veil becomes not just an accessory but a symbol of her unique love story and personal style. Each veil carries a piece of the bride's personality and the shared vision we've cultivated, making it a truly cherished part of her bridal styling.

What inspires you to design?

My primary inspiration for my veil designs comes directly from my brides—it might sound a bit cliche, but their stories, personalities, and visions truly fuel my creative process. I take pride in incorporating unique elements for each bride, like embroidering the wedding date or the couples initials in a discreet yet significant location on the veil (a particular favourite is near the left hand — perfect for photo opportunities with their new rings!). Some brides have even asked for outline illustrations of their pets to be embroidered within their floral designs. Additionally, there's a certain magic in capturing the handwriting of loved ones and delicately tracing it onto the fabric. These personal touches add an extra layer of sentiment and create heirloom pieces that not only enhance the beauty of the veil but also hold profound emotional value for the bride, making the entire design process a deeply meaningful and cherished experience.

What’s the most iconic look you’ve created?

I'd say my signature artwork is what makes any of my veils iconic, alongside the personalised details that can be woven into any design. For me, the larger scale designs are the most distinctive and eye-catching. One aspect I particularly enjoy is hand-drawing florals in my signature continuous line art style. The transformation from sketch to stitch is a fascinating journey, allowing me to bring the romantic and organic elements of nature into the intricate details of each veil (I still watch my embroidery machines in awe when I see my artwork coming to life!). It's a heartfelt and artistic approach that adds a personal touch to every design, ensuring that each piece is a reflection of the bride it is created for.
