Plan a Pre-Wedding Skincare Routine that Works for You

As you approach your wedding, it makes sense that you want to perfect your skincare routine to look your best on the big day. So we got with industry-expert, Shama Patel, Founder & CEO of Clean Your Dirty Face for all you beauty lovers out there and she’s got excellent advice!

The Importance of a Good Skincare Routine

“Planning a wedding can be stressful, and stress can increase skin blemishes. Understanding the role that your environment plays in your skin is important — everything from stress, hormones, diet (cut out refined sugar !), to pollutants in the air. A good skincare routine is about having a few products that work well for you, and using them daily,” Patel explains.

“In terms of product, it’s important to find a daily routine. I always say that ‘nothing works unless you exfoliate first’ and what I mean is that no matter how expensive your bottle of serum is, it’s just sitting on top of your skin unless you’re deeply exfoliating first. That serum needs to penetrate within your skin in order to achieve the radiant skin that [you’re] probably looking for,” according to Patel.

Timing a New Routine

“With skincare, I would recommend starting 6 months before [your wedding]. You don’t want to start something right before and have a possible reaction. It takes time for your skin to adapt to new products, and it also takes some time to work towards [your] particular skincare goal,” says Patel.

“For example, let’s say [you] struggle with acne and redness/inflammation but want really smooth, poreless-looking skin on [your] wedding day. Well, it’s going to take some time to deeply exfoliate off the dead skin cells that house bacteria that leads to acne, for example, because you can’t exfoliate every day. Then, it will take some time for the skin to heal, and experience cell turnover. There is no such [thing] as an unrealistic goal, only unrealistic timelines.”

The Products and Treatments

Patel recommends “exfoliating once a week with something like [their] Flash Facial and moving up to 2-3 times per week if you can handle it. Just remember that having great skin isn’t just about products though, it’s also about eating the right foods, and taking care of yourself both mentally & physically.”

Patel admits her favorite product is their Flash Facial, which is also their number one selling product. She tells us: “It’s a 2-in-1 AHA resurfacing mask with a potent blend of pumpkin enzymes and cinnamon bark in an exfoliating rinse-off that deep cleans and brightens skin in 5 minutes. It’s perfectly safe for brides to use 1-2 times a week to remove dead skin cells and begin working on achieving radiant skin as they approach their wedding day.

“Most peels have to be applied under the care of a licensed esthetician because you can really damage your skin if you don’t know what you’re doing. But, it took us years to develop this perfect product that not only delivers amazing, professional results in our facials, but also something that is goof proof to use at home.”
